Dr. James A. Tompkins is an international authority on designing and implementing end-to-end supply chains. His focus over the last several years has been in the areas of eCommerce, Omnichannel, and Supply Chain Transformations. As the Chairman and CEO of MonarchFx, he brings with him over 35 years of leadership from Tompkins International, a global consulting and implementation business, which stresses the requirement for Strategy before Structure and Structure before Implementation.
Dr. James A. Tompkins received the prestigious Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Industrial Engineering Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) on June 1, 2015. The award is an attribute that recognizes Dr. Tompkins through the contributions he has provided to the welfare of mankind in the field of industrial engineering. In addition, Jim has served as President of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the Materials Management Society, and the College-Industry Council on Material Handling Education, and Purdue has named him a Distinguished Engineering Alum. He has also received more than 50 additional awards for his service to his profession.
His 35-plus years as CEO of a consulting / integration firm and his focus on helping companies achieve profitable growth give him an insider’s view into what makes great companies even better. As a high-level business and supply chain strategy advisor, his unique perspective prepares corporations and executives for the future.
To share his knowledge and provide up-to-date information on supply chain and business trends, he developed his blog called “Creating Supply Chain Excellence.” Jim is also a thought leader, sharing insights on business strategy through his presentations and videos, including his most recent on The Alibaba Effect.
He has written or contributed to more than 30 books, including Caught Between the Tiger and the Dragon, Bold Leadership, Logistics and Manufacturing Outsourcing, The Supply Chain Handbook, No Boundaries and Facilities Planning. Jim has been quoted in hundreds of business and industry magazines such as The Journal of Commerce, Supply & Demand Chain Executive, and FORTUNE, and he has spoken at thousands of international engagements.
Jim received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1969, his Master of Science in Industrial Engineering in 1970 and his Ph.D. in 1972, all from Purdue University.
Gene Tyndall comes to MonarchFx from Tompkins International as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Solutions Officer. Tompkins International is a leader; providing supply chain business improvement services and solutions for companies that Plan, Buy, Make, Move, Distribute, and Sell products across all industry segments. These services are targeted to improved shareholder value through profitable growth, margin improvement, and/or capital efficiency.
Tyndall is a highly respected supply chain consultant, industry veteran, and thought leader. Prior, he was President of Ryder Global Supply Chain Solutions, Global Leader and Senior Partner of the Ernst & Young Supply Chain Management Consulting Practice, and a United States Navy Officer. He has over 30 years’ experience with over a hundred multinational corporations and domestic companies, in strategy development, new process design, technology, and leading practices. Many of the best practices in place today across all industries are due to his thought leadership and leadership.
Tyndall has co-authored several books and written numerous articles on supply chain management, as well as, being quoted by business and public media. His book, Supercharging Supply Chains: New Ways to Increase Value Through Global Operational Excellence, is recognized as a leading guide for managers seeking to achieve higher levels of performance and thus stronger stakeholder value.
Tyndall holds graduate degrees from The George Washington University and his bachelors from the University of Maryland. He is also a graduate of the Institute for Advanced International Management in Switzerland and has attended advanced management programs at Harvard University, Stanford University, and the University of Miami. He was elected to the Global Logistics Hall of Fame and has been honored as Innovator of the Year by Information Management.
Bruce Tompkins boasts more than 30 years of operations experience, from traditional industrial engineering to manufacturing and materials management. He is an expert in manufacturing and distribution processes, lean manufacturing implementation, Six Sigma methodologies, ISO/QS Quality Systems, and benchmarking and gap analysis. Bruce has authored numerous reports and created a variety of presentations that share findings from the Consortium's benchmarking and best practices surveys. He is also frequently quoted in numerous industry publications. Prior to his role at MonarchFx he was Executive Vice President and Director of Marketing for Tompkins International, and Vice President/General Manager of Operations for Maytag Herrin Laundry Products. He received his B.S. in Industrial and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and his M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Management from Oklahoma State University.
Kaplan has 30 years experience as a CFO with 23 of those years working with public companies. During his career, Kaplan has been directly responsible for closing over $1.4 billion in transactions, including underwritten public offerings (four IPOs), PIPEs, acquisitions and bank financings. As EVP and CFO at Rare Medium Group, Kaplan completed a $186 million underwritten public offering and more than $70 million in private placement funding. Throughout his career as a CFO, Kaplan has been responsible for building and developing corporate finance and administrative staff to handle growth, and he has implemented budgeting and forecasting disciplines to manage growth. During Kaplan's tenure at Clabir Corporation, a conglomerate that owned 37 restaurants and 100 convenience stores, the company brought the popular Klondike™ ice cream bar to the national market and subsequently spun-off Klondike as a separate public company.
Kaplan also has substantial experience implementing and managing successful investor relations campaigns and coordinated securities analyst coverage for a number of public companies. Kaplan has experience in financial leadership, capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, and investor relations for public and emerging-growth companies.
Kaplan holds a Master’s of Business Administration with distinction from the New York University Stern School of Business, where he was elected a charter member of Beta Gamma Sigma (National Business Honor Society), and a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University.
Herman is an experienced and accomplished global sales and marketing executive within the distribution, manufacturing, and supply chain industries.
Throughout his career Herman has successfully lead sales, marketing, and account management organizations to achieve accelerated growth. Prior to joining MonarchFx he was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for XPO Logistics, Supply Chain. He has also served as Vice President of Global Account Management with Flextronics, Vice President of Global Sales at ITT, Interconnect Solutions, Vice President of North American Semiconductor Marketing at Arrow Electronics, before starting his career with Marshall Industries. He has over 25 years of experience as a thought leader and practitioner of market segmentation strategy, solution selling process, value proposition development, and disciplined global sales execution. Herman has spoken publicly on strategic solution selling and mentors startup companies with their go to market strategy and sales messaging.
Herman holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from The Ohio State University with a major in Accounting. He has attended advanced management and leadership programs at Harvard University and the ITT Management Institute.
As Vice President Strategic Initiatives Gary works with client executive teams to ensure that their supply chain strategic initiatives are closely aligned with MonarchFx ever emerging thought leadership and global supply chain expertise. Gary has proven experience with aligning MonarchFx World Leadership Team with their client’s executives and senior managers while sustaining long term top to top relationships regardless of projects. Gary brings a wealth of experience with 25 years of client engagements and customer service within the supply chain and logistics industry, as well as in industrial, real estate, construction, marketing and executive sales. He has previously managed business development teams and held account executive roles with significant logistics and supply chain service firms.
Prior to joining MonarchFx Leadership Team, Gary worked with a major construction company in their real estate / industrial team developing large scale distribution facilities. He also co-founded an architectural, design and engineering firm in Ann Arbor MI that grew from two to eighty folks which he co-lead for nineteen years and also owned Haworth and Herman Miller contract furniture dealerships during that same period. Gary is a long-time member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC).

Chris Ferrell is the Vice President of Operations Planning at MonarchFx, with more than 25 years of experience in the Supply Chain industry. Chris specializes in 3PL operations, customer solution design, and outsourced implementations, with an emphasis on service / cost optimization.
Prior to joining MonarchFx, Chris was a Principal with Tompkins where he was a presenter and lecturer at various supply chain benchmarking related conferences. Over a 17 year period before Tompkins, Chris worked in almost every conceivable link in the supply chain for 17 years; primarily with Kraft Foods. Chris has been involved heavily in the 3PL industry having selected and managed many 3PL transitions and overall implementation projects. He has also worked with 3PLs in optimizing their operations and is well versed in the capabilities and limitations of traditional third-party solutions.
Chris received his B.S. in Logistics & Transportation from the University of Tennessee.
Prior to joining MonarchFx, Moon was a Principal for Tompkins International, where Scott used his more than twenty (20) years of supply chain and logistics experience to provide practical and strategic solutions for numerous multi-national global supply chain companies. With a broad understanding of the end to end business process, Scott brings his specialties in Demand and Supply Planning, Warehouse Operations, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Reverse Logistics, and Distribution to help his clients optimize their profit opportunities.
Scott has written several articles on a myriad of supply chain topics. In his latest white paper “Supply Chain Value: Pathway to Efficiency”, he challenges our foundational understanding of the supply chain components to designate holes in our process understanding. He brings his practical, down to earth style and approach to solving complex problems.
Previously, Scott was President, CEO of DCC America, an electronics retail start-up subsidiary of Danske Computer Center, a consultant with Deloitte and KMPG, Vice President of Inventory Control for a 900 store retailer, Director of Planning and Allocation for Victoria’s Secret, Director of Supply Chain for Kidde Fire and Security, and Director of Worldwide Inventory Management for Lenovo have all contributed to his unique perspective on global Supply Chain issues from many disciplines across international boundaries an industry segments.
Scott received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Virginia Tech and his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.
As an MD, business leader and serial entrepreneur, Ben brings over 30+ years of corporate leadership experience serving as the CEO, COO and President of public and private companies in healthcare, brand development, insurance, financial services, technology, and real estate investment.
Ben’s past professional experience includes CEO at Tenet Healthcare Corp. in Florida where he led their accountable care organization and healthcare reform activities; Assistant President at Hearx Ltd. where he co-engineered the company’s restructuring and was chiefly responsible for physician alignment strategies, M&A, and co-led facilities management and supply chain; COO at Allianz N.A & President/CEO at Bravo! Brands, Inc. where he led business strategy and re-energized operations; and EVP at eHDL/Healthnet Data Link where he was responsible for all functional aspects of the Physician Practice Management and EDI business.
Earlier in his career, Ben worked with Sonus USA where he successfully established the largest and fastest growing region of the Sonus Network of hearing care centers and with P&F Investment Group.
Ben also pioneered numerous successful innovative ventures including Weight For Me, the nation’s first and largest Pediatric and Adolescent Weight Control centers directed at over 12 million affected kids nationwide; MedMark Group, the nation’s first medically owned and operated healthcare marketing and advertising agency.
Dale Pickett is a Vice President for MonarchFx. Dale has spent much of his career in distribution network design, warehousing design and operations, warehouse management systems and manufacturing where his practical engineering expertise has helped companies determine the lowest cost solution that meets the business and service requirements for long term success. Dale has modeled networks using multiple tools and designed the resulting warehouse changes and new facilities. He has led many DC implementations for a variety of clients and helped them to achieve significant improvements in cost, performance and service.
He received his B.S. in Engineering from Mississippi State University.
Ed Romaine is the Vice President of Business Development at MonarchFx, with more than 30 years of experience in the supply chain, distribution, and manufacturing industries. Ed specializes in helping organizations find the most efficient and cost-effective means of executing their operations, that align with their overall business objectives and strategies.
Prior to joining MonarchFx, Ed helped drive sales and marketing leadership as VP of Sales and Marketing at SI Systems, VP of Marketing and Business Development at ISD, VP of Marketing at Kardex Remstar and White Systems.
Romaine has been a speaker at dozens of industry event and an editorial and information contributor for hundreds of articles in trade publications on topics including Supply Chain Practices, Automation Trends & Solutions, Ergonomics, Sustainability, Lean Initiatives, Software Best Practices, and more.
Likewise, Romaine has been an integral part of the Materials Handling Institute (MHI) for over 20 years. He’s been the elected chairman in several of their national groups, including the OFC (order fulfillment council), ASRS (automated storage and retrieval systems) and SCE (supply chain execution).
Romaine earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Ohio University with a major in Advertising/Marketing. He has also completed the Wharton School of Business’ advanced management and competitive analysis programs.
